Fall Gathering in Pine City celebrates the region’s fur-trading heritage

Via the North West Company Fur Post:

La Compagnie will be camped at the river landing with their replica fur-trade canoes, a whole pile of real furs, an extensive collection of genuine trade goods, and their reproduction trade musket. Plus, they'll be demonstrating fire starting, finger weaving, campfire cooking and more! And they'll be giving canoe rides!

Celebrate a 19th-century fall gathering as hundreds of re-enactors portraying Ojibwe, voyageurs and fur traders prepare for winter trading along the Snake River. Watch as contestants vie for the title of the best all-around voyageur.

Competitions will test strength and cunning. Shop at historic vendors for handcrafted wares and clothing. Hands-on children’s activities include candle dipping, a scavenger hunt and the popular game “bead scramble.”
